WOW WOW WOW!!!
After spending the better part of this last week marking/clearing the ‘deep’ portions of the course-- All I can say is, YOU ARE ALL IN FOR A TREAT!!!
CURRENT COURSE CONDITIONS:
**The wildflowers are breathtaking.
**The mud/snow has GREATLY receded, meaning that 50k/50mile/100milers will have a great chance for a faster race than we saw last year. Not saying that these trails are fast haha--Just that our trails are looking faster now than they were a year ago.
**Everybody (except the ½ marathon) should have a chance to at least step on some wonderful snow… But there are no crazy-dangerous snow-bridges over creeks or anything like that. It's probably the LEAST snow we’ve ever seen on the course.
**Creek crossings are very manageable, with the Dry-Canyon AS creek crossing the lowest we’ve ever seen (barely shin-height if you cross it on the slightly down-stream side)
**Be sure to watch our pre-race videos about race-markers!
**The trail markers are clearly placed and even laid out even more frequently than last year. Plus much of the brush-work that we’ve done over the past few years is really starting to pay off-- It is easy to see that these trails are becoming more and more navigable each year!
**With regards to navigation during the race, remember the following when out on the course:
NEVER leave a perfectly good trail (unless our markers/signs indicate that you should!)
Take your TIME at intersections!
If you have to step off the trail for a potty break, and you are a back-of-the-pack runner… Be sure to leave a backpack or something on the trail so the sweepers don’t pass you by!
WEATHER-REPORT (1 week out):
Looking like SUNNY with no precipitation for the week leading up to the race--Temperatures in the upper-70s. July 17-18th looks like a high of 91 in Irwin-- Could be a bit cooler up high but we will definitely have some warm days for all racers!!
All registered racers MUST WATCH both our ‘Virtual Pre-Race Meeting’ video and our ‘Safety’ video sometime before they race. Even though our 100-milers still have an old-school, ‘in-person’ pre-race meeting scheduled, it is recommended that you still watch these videos, found on our website, I’m attaching a link here:
As was previously advertised, post-race food will be grab and go-- We will have an assortment of cold deli-style sandwiches with meat and cheese (and the usual sides such as mayo/mustard packets, lettuce, tomato, etc... ), plus an assortment of desserts and drinks and chips to take as well. If you have specific dietary needs or special requests please email us in the next few days and we will do our best to accommodate!
CURRENT STANCE ON COVID-19:
Please refer to our website for our Covid-19 safety plan. Remember, IF YOU GET SICK we really don’t want you at the race!! Email us with any last-minute concerns BEFORE the race pretty please!
LAST MINUTE CANCELLATIONS/ DROP-DOWN IN DISTANCE:
After SUNDAY NIGHT, it will become very difficult for us to drop a runner down in distance. If something comes up this week that will prevent you from running, we would appreciate an email letting us know that you won’t becoming.
Remember to be respectful of social distancing in the ‘camping’ area… And try to maintain quiet hours after 9 pm on Friday night (since some CRAZY folks are starting a 50-mile race at the insane time of 2:00 am!!)
WE ARE EXCITED TO HOST OUR RACE DURING THIS VERY UNIQUE YEAR… BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR LAST WEEK OF ‘TAPER’ (or last-minute training)... AND WE WILL SEE YOU IN A FEW DAYS!!!
